Cape Reinga is the northwestern most point of New Zealand's mainland. Just here the waters of Tasman Sea and Pacific Ocean are meeting. According to Moari myths the spirits of the dead depart the mainland at Cape Reinga to reach Hawaiki which is their traditional homeland Hawaiki. Kap Reinga ist der nordwestlichste Punkt Neuseelands. Hier treffen die Wellen der Tasman-See im Westen auf den Pazifik im Osten. Nach den Sagen der Maori verlassen die Seelen der Verstorbenen hier das Festland, um ihre Reise in das sagenhafte Land Hawaiki zu beginnen, wo die Maori einst nach Neuseeland aufbrachen.
