Common Northern Hermit Crab, Pagurus bernhardus, from the North Sea at Lillebaelt, Kongeborgaarden, Denmark.


The common hermit crab uses a variety of shell to cover his abdomen and safe himself against predators. This species can be found in shallow waters and up to 450 m deep all across the eastern Atlantic and North Mediterranean Sea. They are omnivorous crabs and feed on detritus , sometimes also as scavengers on dead organic material.
