Alveolar rhabdomyosarcoma in the right axilla of a 20 year old from Khartoum, Sudan. Cells that differentiate into muscle cells are kown as rhabdomyoblasts. These cells can become cancerous, and proliferate. They are most commonly found in younger people, as their muscles have not yet matured. They are subdivided into three types, embryonal, alveolar and pleomorphic. The latter is very rare and is found in middle aged adults. Embryonal rhabdomyosarcoma occurs in regions with little skeletal muscle: the head, neck and urogenital regions. Alveolar rhabdomyosarcoma is found where sleletal muscle is plentiful, such as the limbs.
