NY City Council Speak Melissa Mark-Viverito speaks on the steps of City Hall in New York

NY City Council Speak Melissa Mark-Viverito speaks on the steps of City Hall in New York on Tuesday, April 8, 2014 at a rally against pay disparity on Equal Pay Day. The protesters want NY State to pass the Women's Equality Act. Employees are currently prohibited from discussing or asking about salaries and the act, as well as the Paycheck Fairness Act currently in Congress would prohibit employers from retaliating against workers who discuss salaries. The gender wage gap is averaged at 77 percent. (© Richard B. Levine)
