Dun Gerashader Iron Age promontory enclosure, Isle of Skye, Scotland, UK, looking E over lines of boulders defending the S approach. The boulders are set on edge running roughly E-W across the ridge, they are similar to settings of stones known as chevaux de frise used to obstruct the easy approach to a fort. The oblong fort with a single stone rampart occupies a flat-topped ridge between the River Chracaig & a smaller stream to the N of Portree. The rocky & precipitous ridge rises 12m above the surrounding land.
