He was appointed assistant in thePhysics Department when Dr. Dickey leftcollege, the winter of 1918. His last monthsof Washington and Lee life, therefore, di-vided between this work and the bafflingstudy of history, have been busy ones. Somehow or otherhe considered law to be the great profes-sion and accordingly specialized in historyand English for two years as preparationfor matriculation in the law school, the call of history proved stronger thanthat of the law and in the spring of 1916Dave returned to the academic school, afterhaving passed all the law work taken. Asassistant in the history department and stu-dent in other departments, he has been work-ing since for his degree. Dave at-tended Michigan Summer School, 1916, andWisconsin, 1917. Besides being interestedin his studies, Dave has been prominent inpublication work, having served as Editor-in-Chief of two publications, the Collegian1917, and the Calyx 1918.
