trapped landscapes of cities and cliffs. The Finnish Tourist Board (formerly known as the Finnish Tourist Association) was founded in 1887. The association promoted tourism among both domestic and foreign audiences. In the 20th century, it maintained several of Finland's most important tourist destinations, published a magazine and travel books. The most significant tourist destinations maintained by the association were Koli, Aulanko and many mountain destinations in Lapland. Many of the most respected photographers of their time described the Tourism Association's publications, Otso Pietinen, Rafael Roos, Eino Mäkinen, Heinrich Iffland, Heikki Aho and Björn Soldan. The Finnish Tourist Board operated as a national central organization in the field of tourism until it went bankrupt in 2001.
