Derelict control tower at RAF Coleby Grange, Lincolnshire. The air field was used during World War 2 and the Cold War.
Derelict control tower at RAF Coleby Grange, Lincolnshire Constructed in 1938, RAF Coleby Grange served as Fighter Command base during the Battle of Britain, and housed night fighter squadrons later in the war. During the Cold War Coleby Grange was a joint RAF / USAF base, housing Thor nuclear missiles. The RAF station was closed in 1963. Today only the control tower remains. Coleby Grange is allegedly haunted by several ghosts. The ghost of an RAF officer, distraught at the loss of so many aircrew, is said to haunt the observation tower. Another spirit is said to throw stones at passers-by, and yet another is said to be the spirit of a man who died falling down the stairs to the top floor of the control tower.
