Giant Atlas Moth (Atticus Atlas) at rest on an Iris

Giant Atlas Moth, (Atticus Atlas) at rest with wings spread on an Iris flower. This moth is arguably the largest moth or indeed largest insect in the world. Individuals can be found with a wingspan of 12 inches with the females being generally larger than the male. The dispute arises because there are other moth species that are longer from top to bottom rather than across the wings. This species can be found in various countries in the Far East notably the countries around Thailand.
