The ruins of Hatta Fort, in the Emirate of Dubai, circa 1985
The photograph is from a scanned Ilford FP 4 negative of ruins of the old Hatta Fort in the Hajr mountains of Dubai, in the old tribal areas that bordered the Sultanate of Oman, Abu Dhabi and Saudi Arabia. Taken in 1985. The Fort was built on an old trading route and boasted a fine oasis due to an abundant water supply to produce vegetables but the more important date and palm, palm trees that can be seen in the photo. The fort was abandoned around 1975 then simply neglected. The fort was restored in 2001 as a tourist attraction.
