Nave Roof and Clerestory, Salisbury Cathedral, Wiltshire

Salisbury Cathedral is an exceptional example of the use of "Purbeck Marble" in the column shafts of nave and aisles and in the vault ribs. The Purbeck Marble is actually crystalline limestone from Corfe Castle in Dorset. The cathedral is unique in that it was all built in one phase, rather than in separate phases, so is in a single medieval style.
