An 1842 full length portrait of Colonel Sibthorpe, British MP (Member of Parliament) - Charles de Laet Waldo Sibthorp ( 1783 – 1855), was popularly known as Colonel Sibthorp, and was often a caricatured member of the British gentry. British Ultra-Tory politician and Member of Parliament for Lincoln,he served in the Scots Greys, Dragoon Guards and as Lieutenant-Colonel of the Royal South Lincolnshire Militia. Eccentric & blunt speaking, he distrusted all foreigners and offended Queen Victoria with his public suspicions about Prince Albert as well as dismissing railways as a passing fad.
