Costume of a woman of St. Valery en Caux. Again the simple bonnet, this time covered with a striped toile. The woman has just left the church, signified by the large cross behind her. Hand-colored fashion plate illustration by Lante engraved by Gatine from Louis-Marie Lante's "Costumes des femmes du Pays de Caux," 1827/1885. With their tall Alsation lace hats, the women of Caux and Normandy were famous for the elegance and style.
