Eureka Dunes and the Last Chance Mountains. The sands of 680 foot tall Eureka Dunes in Death Valley National Park are known for the strange phenomenon of singing sand. When the sand is completely dry, avalanches down the steepest face of the highest dune emit a sound like the distant drone of an airplane.
