Parts of Avoyelles, West Feliciana and EastBaton Rouge are also alluvial. In treating of the soilsof this region it would be best, perhaps, to adopt thelocal custom and call all of that portion north of themouth of Red River north Louisiana, and all south ofit south Louisiana. This should be done, also, from anagricultural standpoint, since the soils of the northernsection are of a lighter, sandier character than those ofthe southern section.
