This is a small street scene showing the houses attached to the Abbey of Farfa in the Sabine, N. Lazio. Italy The houses were all built to the same height. At one time the monks rented these houses to the most prosperous merchants that gathered at the Abbey for religious festivals in April and September. Today some of the houses are shops, one of which sells beautiful linens made from a traditional loom housed in the shop. Another sells honey, oil, wine and other organic products from the Sabine.
