Blue plaque on premises occupied by Junius S. Morgan and John Pierpont Morgan in Princes Gate, Westminster, London.

This blue plaque is located in Prince's Gate facing Hyde Park, on the building now occupied by the Royal College of General Practitioners. The American banker Junius Spencer Morgan rented and then purchased the house from its original owner, George Baker. He was originally a merchant banker in partnership with George Peabody and, on Peabody's retirement in 1864 took sole control and named the firm J S Morgan and Co. When he died in 1890, the business was taken over by his son J Pierpoint Morgan, a much more flamboyant character. The house was the home to his large collection of works of art by Gainsborough, Velasquez, Turner and Rembrandt among others. The house was subsequently the home for American Ambassadors and the headquarters of the Independent Television Authority before coming into the ownership of The Royal College of General Practitioners.
