Gothenberg, Sweden A Santa Lucia Festival. The festival is celebrated each year on Saint Lucy comes as a young woman with lights and sweets. It is one of the few saint days observed in Scandinavia. In some forms, a procession is headed by one girl wearing a crown of candles others in the procession hold a single candle. The festival started to appear in the 1700s around Lake Vä modern processions in Swedish cities started in 1927 when a newspaper in Stockholm elected an official Lucia for Stockholm that year. A Lussekatt ("St. Lucia Bun"), made with saffron, is eaten on this day.
