Castrop-Rauxel, Recklinghausen, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany - EMSCHERLAND adventure park at the Emscher-RHK water junction. EMSCHERLAND, an approximately 30-hectare water and nature experience park at the water junction of the Rhine-Herne Canal (right) and the renaturalized Emscher River (center) on the city border of Recklinghausen with Castrop-Rauxel. The ecological focal point at the confluence of the Suderwicher Bach (left) and the Emscher (center) will also be a future garden for the International Garden Exhibition 2027. Before renaturation, the Emscher river system was an open, above-ground wastewater channel, a combined sewer with surface water and sewage. Where the Emscher, the Suderwicher Bach and the Rhine-Herne Canal meet, an intermunicipal adventure park has been created in recent years on an area of around 30 hectares. The park's offerings include a water playground, a water learning site, a perennial garden, a beekeeper's house, a meadow orchard and farm gardens, as well as the Emscher Terraces with a future vineyard (mountain between the Emscher and RHK).
