Bristol, UK. 11th January 2021. The race to vaccinate the UK out of lockdown begins today as first arrivals start to pass through the doors at the mass vaccination centre at Ashton Gate Stadium in Bristol, which is ready to jab thousands of elderly and vulnerable people over the coming weeks. The new vaccination super-hub in Bristol is one of seven similar centres dotted around the country and will concentrate on the four priority groups identified by the Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunisation (JCVI). At present the over-80s are the only members of the general public eligible for vaccines but the Government has promised to jab everybody over 70 by mid February so the queues are likely to begin looking younger as the weeks go on. The UK has ordered 157 million doses in total of approved vaccines - 40 million of BioNTech/Pfizer, 100 million of Oxford/AstraZeneca and 17 million of Moderna.
