Sir James Mackintosh (1765 – 1832) was a Scottish jurist, Whig politician and historian. He was trained as a doctor and barrister, and worked also as a journalist, judge, administrator, professor, philosopher and politician. From 1818 to 1824 he was professor of law and general politics in the East India Company's College at Haileybury
