OUKANG-OUTANCt zoo NOTES. Described and Illustrated with Photographs by W. P. Dando, It is really regrettable to have to announceDeath of *^^ death of the only surviv-the Ourang= ing specimen of the Ourangs*• ^S- which were deposited in thenew Ape House. The animal had notbeen on the sick list many days be-fore it died from congestion of the liver(a disease which mostly takes off theseapes), and not an affection of the kmgs, which is the cause of more mortalityamong monkeys than any other ourang was never a healthy specimen, and his death, following so soon after thatof his companion and the loss of theproboscis monkey, is most unfortunate. Itis to be hoped they will both soon bereplaced by more robust specimens, asnothing more attractive than a reallyrobust and lively adult ourang could be found for the new Ape House, except, ofcourse, an adult gorilla, which would indeed be a great attraction.
