Seroki Dunaj is a wide square opening on Waski Dunaj (Narrow Danube Street). The square was once a marketplace, where fish, fruit, vegetables and flowers were sold. The street name refers to a small stream that one flowed through Warsaw's Old Town. The cast iron fountain in the background of the shot marks the source of the stream. All the buildings here, as in most of Warsaw's Old and New Towns, were destroyed by the Germans during and after the 1944 Warsaw Uprising. Post-war reconstruction was undertaken 1955-1963.
