Todd was born on the oldTodd farm and prior to enlisting for serv-ice in the Civil War taught a term ofschool in Harmony Township. He wascommissioned a lieutenant by GovernorDavid Todd and served three years inthe army. After he returned he workeda short time as a blacksmith and also con-ducted a small grocery business and thentraveled for some years as a representa-tive of a business house. He became veryprominent politically and for nine yearsserved as county recorder on the Repub-lican ticket. After retiring from off
