The brigade carried the line to the bend in the Meuse River betweenVilosnes-sur-Meuse and Brieulles-sur-Meuse, where both regiments and themachine gun battalion were established, echeloned in depth. For several days the position was a precarious one, well in advance ofthe allied lines on either flank, and constituting an exposed salient into whichthe enemy sent gas and high explosive shells from three directions.
