American troops outside the barn near Gardelegen where over 1000 prisoners being evacuated from forced labour camps were herded into the barn and it was set on fire. 1016 died and 7 survived. The action wascarried out by local units (Hitler Youth, Volkssturm and fire-fighters) under SS direction.
