The thick flesh is green, with golden tint next to the small seed cavity, which makes it very attractive when cut, and the flavor delicious, being remarkably sweet and spicy. Vines are very prolific, and bear large numbers of fruits, which are edible in about 90 days from time of planting seed. This melon has our highest recommendation. It is of globe shape, with light straw colored skin and white flesh, which is very mild and tender. This variety will pro- duce onions averaging five inches in diameter and weighing up to 2 lbs., if seed is sown early under glass and young plants are transplanted in April. The bulbs grow flat, pure white, and to a medium size, and are remarkable for their solidity and long keeping qualities. This is the sort mostly grown for white sets, the small round hard bulb being ideal for the purpose. Sowings from seed produce good quality scallions, or a little later the small pickling size, and when fully mature a medium sized onion, unequalled for culinary purposes. A good plan is to sow seed thickly in the rows, and use the young seedlings as scallions, until sufficiently thinned out
