Grappenhall Heys lies in a commanding and elevated position to the south of Warrington, Cheshire and close to the village of Grappenhall. It is the site of a former Manor House owned by the Parr family and was donated to the Woodland Trust by the Commission for the New Towns in 1992. In the late 1970's the house was destroyed by fire and subsequently demolished leaving only the walled garden in place. Grappenhall Wood is located in the green belt to the south side of the village of Grappenhall in Warrington. The site is community woodland planted as part of the Woodland Trusts millennium project "Woods on Your Doorstep" (WOYD). Prior to the Trusts ownership the site was farmland (arable). It was purchased with help from the local community, the Millennium Commission and the Mersey Forest in late a comprehensive community consultation, the site was planted in the winter of 1998 / 99. The wood has close links with other local Woodland Trust sites, most notably Grappenhall Heys and Grappenhall Heys Shelterbelt which lie less than a kilometre to the west.
