A small town in the province of Cáceres, Trujillo was the birthplace of Francisco Pizarro González, Spanish conquistador, conqueror of the Inca Empire and founder of Lima, capital of Peru. The golden stone typical of the town's many religious buildings and monuments is frequently decorated with fine carvings.
