She first made him strangle his wife in herbed ; then she married him. Brunehault persuaded her husband to avenge her sister,and war broke out betw^een the two brothers. It did notlast long. Two of Fredegondes men-at-arms gained ad-mission to Sigebert to deliver a message and stabbed himwith poisoned knives. Fredegonde, rejoicing over themurder, pushed on and caught Brunehault, whose chancesof life would have been slim if her beauty had been
