It is common, and in some places abun- dant. l(s voice is a loud, coarse, resonant trill, uttered with a uiiii'orm pitcii, and continued for two or tliree seconds. It is heard about bodies of water in the. spring, when the sexes are depositing and fertilizing the eggs. Later in tlie Si son it i»n)ceeds from fences, hedgerows, and orchards, as well as IVoni the forest, often at no great elevation above tlie ground. They are especially noisy towards <'vening after a rain; but tliey may be lieard at any tinu^ during dark and drizzly days. Tlioy are susceptible of some doinesti(!ation.
