Fields of Opportunity Following are some of the fields for opportunity for thegraduate veterinarian:. Pharmacy Laboratory 5 General Practice. Though motor power has considerablysupplanted the horse, increase in both country and citywork has, however, more than compensated. Contrary tothe predicted elimination of the horse their number andvalue continue to increase; moreover, the stimulation andimportance of the live stock industry, the increasingdemand to treat diseases among all classes of animals andthe fact that stock holders are becoming better informedassures attractive income for skilled men entering the fieldof general veterinary practice. Government Inspection Service. The Bureau of Animal Indus-try, United States Department of Agriculture, employsover 1700 graduate veterinarians as meat inspectors; forlaboratory and quarantine work, and in disease controlproblems. Following graduation from an accreditedveterinary college and competitive civil service examinationthe initial salary is $1500 and through advancement rangesas high as $35
