John Constable was born in 1776 in East Bergholt a village on the River Stour in Suffolk. His most famous painting The Hay Wain shows a horse and cart crossing the river with a white cottage on the left bank. The painting was of Flatford and is still to be seen today. Flatford Mill was one of several mills owned by Constable's father.
