Sergeant Soabrook is seen standing amidst the ruins of Cloth Hall in Ypres, Belgium. Once known for its fine tapestries and carpets, this elaborately constructed building was decimated by four years of relentless shell fire during World War I. This photograph was released by the Censor on December 23, 1918.
