Schäfersee Reinickendorf, Berlin. The circular lake is a remnant of the last Ice Age, A block of dead ice melted and the depression filled with water. The body of water is drained by the Black Graben on the west side. The lake receives untreated water from the surrounding roads and contains many pollutants and heavy metals that have settled on the lakebed for decades. The lake is considered biologically dead from a depth of metres. The park around the lake was laid out between 1922 and 1928 by the garden architect Karl Löwenhagen and is a listed garden monument
