View of the River Douro and the Ponte de D. Luis, Oporto's emblematic iron bridge built in 1886. The bridge is Oporto's well-known landmark and was built by Théophile Seyrig, a former assistant. of the famous architect Eiffel who designed the Eiffel Tower in Paris. The two level bridge was used for motor traffic until two years ago when it underwent a complete reconstruction progamme. Now, the bottom level is still used for road traffic and the top level is now used for the city's new metro system. Also on the top level, there is a walkway beside the metro lines for those who are not afraid of heights
