Antarctic krill (Euphausia superba). Krill are small, shrimp-like creatures which live in huge swarms. E. superba swarms can be kilometres across and reach densities of 10,000 individuals per cubic metre. Each individual is at most 6 centimetres long. They feed on algae. Krill are a major food species for a wide array of oceanic creatures, ranging from small fish such as sardines and herring to blue whales.
