Nothino-in fresco can exceed the harmony and brilliance of the colour-ing, and the softness of the execution. It appeared to me a Y 162 LEGENDS OF THE MADONNA. masterpiece as a picture. Like Ghirlandajo, Andrea has in-troduced portraits; and in the Florentine lady who stands inthe foreground we recognise the features of his worthlesswife Lucrezia, the original model of so many of his femalefigures that the ignoble beauty of her face has become 84 Vera Effigie della Santissima Vergine Bambina die si venera nella Chiesa di Civitanova.
