Woolly rhinoceros fossil, illustration. This extinct prehistoric mammal existed from the Late Pliocene to the Late Pleistocene ( million years ago to 10,000 years ago). This mummified specimen of the prehistoric woolly rhinoceros (Coelodonta antiquitatis) was found in a tar pit in Starunia, Poland. It is an adult female. The original is on display in the Polish Academy of Sciences' Museum of Natural History in Krakow, Poland.
