False-colour angiograph (arteriograph) of the abdominal region of a person suffering from Leriche's syndrome of impotence, the result of atheroma form
False-colour angiograph (arteriograph) of the abdominal region of a person suffering from Leriche's syndrome of impotence, the result of atheroma formation in the aorta in the region of its division into the two iliac arteries, and in the smaller arteries supplying the pelvis. Atherosclerosis in large arteries is common in persons suffering from diabetes. Here, a section of the normal aorta appears at top centre in red, with a renal artery supplying the left kidney (right) also visible. Below this region the aorta appears to come to an abrupt end, with only fine vessels on right-side of image supplying the lower abdomen.
