N. J. that the Netherlands government has placed an embargo on the exportation of bulbs. The steamer agents accepted the report as true and as accounting for the unexplained detention of the loaded ship. The Holland-America line office in New York August 20 notified certain large importers that a steamer loaded with bulbs had sailed August 18. No further information has been given re- garding it, and there is a possibility that one cargo may have got away before the embargo was decided on. The reason for the embargo is not apparent and no statement is obtain- able. The crop is grown, harvested and in the cases; moreover, the large expense of selling has been met and nothing but trouble can come to the Hollanders through failure to export.
