‘The Triumphal Gates’ herald the entrance to the town centre. Standing metres high, and metres wide, the gates were forged from steel, and later painted with black graphite. The gates contain sixteen decorative panels, depicting images of local significance, both historical and modern. By PETER PARKINSON and RICHARD QUINNELL 1992.
