An impression in wax showing the Borough Seal of the town of Leominster, Herefordshire, England, UK

The seal of the Borough is typically Medieval in design and was granted by King Edward I who lived from 1272 to 1307. It depicts St Peter the Patron Saint of Leominster wearing a Medieval robe and carrying his traditional keys. On the edge or border of the seal is embossed in Latin LEOMINISTRIE SICILLUM COMMUN or Common Seal of Leominster. The seal is an impression upon wax used at a time when writing was not common but when every person of means or wealth possessed a coat of arms or other distinctive device. The seals were a means of distinguishing between persons. They were also used for authenticating documents and deeds as well as to authenticate the witnessing of signatures by notaries or lawyers
