The constellation of Auriga the Charioteer. Auriga is a large and ancient constellation of the northern sky. Its five brightest stars form an irregular pentagon which occupies the central and lower left part of the frame. Gamma Aurigae (bright at bottom centre), the lowest vertex of the pentagon, has now been moved into Taurus and is known as beta Tauri. Capella (upper centre) is the brightest star in Auriga; it is associated with the Charioteer's left shoulder and is also known as the Goat Star. The Milky Way crosses the constellation of Auriga and is seen here as a faint band running diagonally from top right to bottom left.
