Out of themass there has been much of interest and the yearssee the American painters gradually assuming aproper importance. The pictures of DouglasVolk have attracted attention, notably a recent one,Pond Lilies, wherein the artist has in a way brokenfrom earlier traditions, and painting with greaterbreadth, has secured as well better color. Hisfigures never lack for grace and charm and thisgroup is admirably managed and composed ininteresting lines. Collectors will welcome a new catalogue of etch-ings and engravings just published by FrederickKeppel & Co.,
