Keratocephalus, computer artwork. Keratocephalus belonged to the tapinocephalians, one of the major groups of therapsids, prehistoric mammal-like reptiles. Therapsids include mammals and their immediate evolutionary ancestors, however, all other lineages of these animals are now extinct. Keratocephalus lived between 270 and 260 million years ago, in the Middle Permian period.
