Castle Clinton or Fort Clinton is a circular fort made of stoneware located in Battery Park at the southern tip of Manhattan, New York. It is an American national monument. The fort is named after DeWitt Clinton, the governor of New York who had the bay's defenses reinforced. Construction of the fort began in 1808 and was completed in 1811. It is situated on an artificial island known as West Battery (sometimes South-west Battery), according to plans by architects John McComb Jr. and Jonathan Williams.
