From sections near the outer border of thetumor the probable genesis can be traced, the process giving theappearance of metaplasia of myomatous into sarcomatous Harold Gustavus Palmer. Arthur T. Jones. 472 ARTHUR T. JONES. Statistics.—There are practically no statistics on the frequencyof this condition. Text-books give very little or nothing re-garding it. Bovees book mentions cases as having been re-ported by Klein, Niebergall, Emanuel, Iwanoff, Montgomery,Opitz, Nebesky, and Fry but states that the condition is veryrare. Late publications on myoma and sarcoma, on myoma andcarcinoma, do not speak of the occurrence of sarcoma and car-cinoma in any of the cases although it may be presumed that thecondition must have ben found in some of the cases. Consider-. Fig. 7.—Same as figure 6 but X 300. Showing structure of two types of cells present. ing the frequency with which we find the association of myomaand carcinoma and of myoma and sarcoma, this latter beinggenerally looked upon as a complication of myoma of the uterus,it would seem that the occurrence of carcinoma and sarcoma inthe same uterus must be of greater frequency then we mightjudge from any writings on the subject. Tracys report of 3561 cases of myoma gives 1147 degenera-tion and changes in the tumors and uterus. Carcinoma ofcorpus uteri 63 or per cent. Carcinoma of cervix 25 per cent. He speaks of two or more degenerations in the ADENOCARCINOMA AND SARCOMA. 473 same tumor, but does not specify the types of the gives a percentage of per cent, of carcinoma in a seriesof 4880 cases of myoma. Cullen says that sarcoma occurs in2 per cent. Winter in 1743
