After a few weeks in Esslingen, where Dr. Spaeth offi-ciated at the marriage of his brothers eldest daughter, ashort but very interesting trip into Switzerland was taken,including Lucerne, Vierwaldstaetter-See and they arrived in dense fog which cleared for sunsetand a beautiful moonlit night. Pleas-ant company, exceptionally good fare, a roomy cabinand the ocean as smooth as a river made this by farthe most delightful voyage I ever had in my life. Byspecial request he delivered a lecture on Bismarck, andon Sunday morning conducted a short service. Theusual concert was given, this time under the leadershipof Emil Paur. There were many musicians of highstanding on board. At the German service the choraleswere played by Professor Milde, Director of the NationalConservatory, New York.
