The legs are usually slender, often spiny, whilethe tarsi have five segments. The wings are membranouswith not more than seven longitudinal nervines, and afew cross nervules. Diptera undergo a very completemetamorphosis, the larva being always eruciform, oftena legless maggot. The pupa is variable in form.
